Hi everyone,
Earlier on today you may have experienced trouble logging in to the game and the RuneScape Official Forums, as well as your Friends List going on/offline if you were still logged into the game.
At approximately 17:30(GMT+1) we were made aware that several of our servers had gone offline. After instant investigation into the issue, it became apparent that this was a result of a technical problem with our core hosting provider.
We have been in constant contact with them in order to ensure that the issue was resolved as fast as possible. We will be here for as long as it takes in order to get this fixed, do not worry.
Your account security will not have been compromised at any time and our systems have remained completely secure – as always – during this period. All items both in your inventory and within your bank will also have been entirely secure during this time.
A few of you may be trying to login to a different world and finding that you get a message "“Your account is already logged in.†This is nothing to worry about. When a server crashes, your character will remain locked in the game for a minimum of 30 minutes, or until the servers are brought back online. This is simply because the server is unable to send logout packets to the login servers, meaning they do not know that they player is no longer connected.
