New CC (and Maybe Forum as Well) Ranking System

Post by Dima » Sat Jan 09, 2010 10:03 am

Used in the army! Good mean of knowing who to ask what, as higher rank means more experience!
What I devised is the following schema, but it's entirely debatable:
Image Clan Friend - Does what it says. Considered as no rank at all.

Image Recruit - A clan member's rank; Everyone's a member, and so is he.
Image Corporal - Actually knows what "KoA" means. Given after 6 months in the clan.
Image Sergeant - Gives orders, and sometimes people listen. Given 9 months after received the Corporal rank.
Image Lieutenant - Feels absolutely at home, and sees nothing odd with asking you to make him coffee. Given 12 months after receiving the Sergeant tank.

Image Captain - Given to junior staff, such as events. Has the ability to magically make people disappear when clicking their name in the CC.
Image General - Given to senior staff, such as site admins. Has the ability to magically make people disappear permanently when clicking their name in the CC.

For and against then.

Against:
- Too complicated.
- Logistics.
- People might give too much meaning to the ranking system, favouring the higher ranks; Veteran players might become full of themselves.

For:
- Adds complexity.
- Gives an extra reward to players who'd been with KoA for a long time.
- Much more organized for both new and veteran members.

My personal view:
First and most important, it's neat! Getting into the CC and seeing who's new (which is really hard to notice lately), who's an old dog, who's recently has been promoted and so on. It adds a fair bit of complexity and fun.
Secondly, old people should have their oldness recognized! Some folk have been supporting the clan for a long time, and they want it to be displayed to the masses - something that shouldn't be taken for granted, because most Runescapers switch clans as often as underwear.
New members will also feel less unrelated in any current fad or ongoing event that's currently taking place in the clan, and veteran players would understand that, coming forward to them.

Now, I know what the objectors are thinking, that it might split the clan into veterancy groups. To that I have two counterarguments.
1. It's a game, we're all adults, and if someone turns out to be a dick because he does think ranks represent more than a good bit o' fun, he'll be removed from the clan.
2. It might actually be a good thing. Like it or not, the clan's huge, way bigger than what everyone had in mind two years ago - for better and worse. You can't expect everyone to know everyone well (which is the senior staff's job). What the veteracny-ranks might introduce is a slow and steady adaptation to the rest of the clan, rather than be thrown into the crowd, which at the moment of writing consists of 126 members.

I'm not exactly fond of a ranking system. Deep set up KoA as a (drama free) community of adults looking to come together to enhance their RS experience in a positive way. Turning it into a para-military type of schema would alter the nature of KoA, even if it's just slightly. I'm sorry, but I have to say that I'm against the idea.

i tend to have the attitude of keep it simple...

the idea of a fun group of ppl getting together for chat and doing events together without the children or drama is the main reason i joined the clan about a year and a half ago

ive learned alot from some of the game old timers in our layed back growing family

i also am thinking that if we do a total rank system that too much will be read into the ranks

having ranks to show certain status such as admin...event staff....etc is not so confusing...but lets others know who has wat responsibility

so as is works for me...just my little opinion

LOL.. deekay ur funny. I dont mind what rank i am really, but sorry to say, no offense to u or anyone, this sounds a bit too strict. Rules are enforced but we all know who the admins are. I'm pretty sure we don't need this system here cuz we all known basic principles of respecting each other. We're all treated equally am I right?

I know I'm the clan newb right now, but being awarded CC ranks based completely on longevity isn't really the fairest way to go about it. Yes I believe that the longevity should mean a great deal and members should be able to recognize recruits easier, but to base CC rankings completely on longevity....

In my personal opinion the full range of ranks should be utilized (eg: instead of auto sergent use recruit) and people should be given CC rankings based on general decency and helpfulness towards others; and of course participation in events and on the forums. As long as this is those general principles are the main factors in being promoted I so no problem in implementing the longevity factor too, just as long as its not the entirely base upon it.

Of course we all can agree its just a game (that we happen to love) and the reason for kOa is to have peers of our own age to talk to.

*my two cents*

Not sure that it adds much if I'm honest DK.. Other than remembering to say "Welcome" to the new folk I'm not sure how much help it is knowing how long someone's been in the clan.. Obviously helpful to know who the admins are so we can party when they're gone ;)

I like the idea of the newest having a rank that lets clan members know to say "welcome to the clan" and can tell they are new to the clan by their rank symbol.

The rank-for-goodness is what tends to create loafing.

But enough! You have beaten me again, old people, and since we're in the Democracy forum, this idea will not be implemented.

I like the idea in principle, but don't think we'd need as in-depth of a system as that.

What I would like to have is bump up the ranks of current members to two bananas (idk what the actual rank is :/) and have new members ranked as one banana (don't know that rank either) for the first week-ish that their in the clan. This is simply because most of the time when I see some name I haven't seen before I assume they're new, but sometimes they're old members with new names.
Currently playing: Civilization V, Hearthstone, Dwarf Fortress II, Golf (IRL).
