MarshViperx Runescape hack rumor

If you haven't heard already the legendary hacker MarshviperX(hacked the old nites account, found the first bloodrune dupe, was responsible for the 2002 starcraft surge and the warhammer highscore hack) has recently claimed that he is about to perform the biggest account hacking in MMORPG history on thousands of runescape accounts. He reckons he has found a vulnerability in the java login script and can gain access to anyones account he wants and that he has made a bot so that he can hack a poopy at once making the rs char drop all items in their bank to get into the guinness world record for online game hacking. He is planning to do all this at 12 on new years eve.

Anyway he has compiled a massive list of the names he is going to enter into his bot to be hacked and has released it probably to scare the crap out of everyone

My name is on the list make sure you have a bank pin then his bot can't do anything because he has only found a vulnerability in the login script, theres no way he has found a way to get everyones pin number too. If you go to the contact us section of rs forums you will probably see a load of posts about it although jagex has been deleting them to try and calm people.



Let me prefess by saying I don't believe this will happen in anyway shape or form. It's RS news though and on a couple other forums. I took that word for word off another forum and edited out the link to the list b/c I don't want anyone here clicking it and reading it. I didn't personally download it but do know my names on it probably with all of the top 5000 players lol. There are 776,000 names on the list. I'm sure it's just a "scare" tactic type thing but anyway thought I'd post it for a good laugh.

I also doubt that this will happen. I highly doubt that he's found a bug in the login. But, we'll see. lol

BTW, can you upload the userlist somewhere I can look at it or download it? I've only found it on rapidshare, which totally blows for free users.

Yeah, I'm on the list too. I still don't think that it'll happen. However, I changed my RS password just in case, and double check my recovery questions. lol

I think the Jagex team are actually pretty security concious.

Not saying it isn't possible, there's certainly bigger, more well known and more important sites that have been hacked / cracked / attacked and come off badly.

But I'm not really all that bothered.

If over 700k accounts get compromised, I'd be pretty certain Jagex would roll-back.

In my non-knowledgeable view, even with a huge network of hijacked computers he wouldnt be able to get all 700k+ characters to a bank from wherever they are on the map, runescape bots just arent that good afaik, considering they couldnt cope with randoms of old, to go from any location on the map, with whatever obstacles may stand in the way if they arent carrying teleports, is just far too complex. Most bots that were on runescape before would fail at the slightest obstacle not pre-programmed into it's routine.

Unless he knows of some kind of exploit to get direct access to the database, in which case a pin wouldnt do much good, and Jagex would just roll back.

I might be wrong, but meh, if some guy with obvious mental health issues gets his kicks thinking this in some way accomplishes much, I hope he gets the enjoyment out of it he expects.

Nonsense. You can't "hack" into Runescape. There's no such thing as hacking in our era either, only theft. At the very most he managed to brute some passwords (which I find hard to believe).
As for the list, that's more manageable - to load the first couple of names from the Hiscores.
