The Great 5th Anniversary Treasure Hunt! 7.30pm GMT Part I

Post by Diplomatt » Thu Dec 06, 2012 8:04 pm

There will be two 'KoA Treasure Hunts' on Saturday 8th December in World 64 to celebrate the 5th birthday of the 'Best Clan In Runescape'!

What time?

The first one will be at 19:30hrs (UK time) and the second, will be decided by the 'Boss' himself at a later time. We have decided to host two to make it fair to all the members from around the world in different time zones, who may not be able to attend the first one.

What do I need?

You need to take yourself, a spade, lightweight clothing and your competetive edge with you!

How will we do it?

For players that have not done 'Enchanted Keys' before, I have copied the wiki page and pasted below. For others that do remember, it's the hot and cold game!
Temperature Readings

The key changes temperature as the player moves about. Its temperature is based on the distance of the treasure from the player, measured in the number of steps (including diagonal steps) it would take to reach the treasure, ignoring any obstacles (this is the Chebyshev distance between the player and treasure). The warmer the key gets, the closer the player is to the treasure. Clicking "Feel key" gives information on its temperature, consisting of two parts described below. It is like playing the game of hot and cold.

First

The following table indicates the 8 possible temperature readings based on the distance to the treasure (measured as described above):
Distance Temperature description
More than 1000 squares It's freezing
701 to 1000 squares It's very cold
401 to 700 squares It's cold
101 to 400 squares It's warm
61 to 100 squares It's hot
31 to 60 squares It's very hot
5 to 30 squares Ouch! It's burning hot
Up to 4 squares The key is steaming
When a player receives the message "The key is steaming", he or she should use a spade to dig up the treasure. Note that, as indicated by the table, there is a 9 by 9 square region in which they may dig.

Second part

If the player has already felt the key since last logging on or finding treasure, the temperature reading will contain a second part, indicating whether the temperature is warmer, colder or the same as the last reading, thereby indicating whether the distance to the treasure (measured as described above) has increased, decreased, or is the same. The three descriptions are:
Warmer than last time - You are getting closer than before.
Colder than last time - You are getting farther away than before.
Same temperature as last time - You are the same distance away.
Players may use this information to determine which direction to go, as follows:
Move one square North, South, East and West, taking temperature readings between each step.
One direction, for example North, will result in the message "Warmer than last time".
Move directly North while constantly taking readings, until the message "Same temperature as last time" is produced.
Move one square East and West, taking temperature readings between each step.
One direction, say East, will result in the message "Warmer than last time".
At this point the treasure is directly North East of the player.
Move diagonally in this direction while taking readings, until the message "The key is steaming" is produced.
3 'Treasure Masters' will face you when you arrive at the secret location. You job is to ask for a key from one 'Treasure Master'. You can only carry one key at a time. When everyone has a key, the Treasure Masters will shout a location where their chest is buried (you need the correct key to open the chest, so make sure you get the right location), your job is to teleport to the location shouted by your Treasure Master and find the treasure, it will be GO, GO, Go!! All locations will be close to a Lode Stone. To save on time and stop everyone teleporting around RS for an entire evening, we will limit the hunt to small areas.

What can I win?

I have been asking for donations for the past week to fill the boxes up, firstly I would like to say a Massive Thankyou to everyone who has donated so far, your generosity is greatly appreciated and will make the hunt even better. The 3 chests will contain either gp, feathers or a booby prize! Only the Treasure Masters will know what they had in their chests before they bury them and the exact location!

So far we have in excess of 25 Million gp worth of prizes. If you haven't yet donated and would like to, please see me in game. Every little donation will add up to make some good prizes and if your feeling flush, chuck in a shed load of money!

Dan has offered his services to take any donations in game as well. I am 'duty' tomorrow (won a bleedin Friday/ Sunday this weekend), so if I'm not on, he will be available.

The total prize kitty will be split equally down the middle for both hunts..........................except the booby prizes!

Can I get more than 1 key if the chest is found?

Yes!! If the chest you are hunting is successfully found, you can race back to get another key and start again!

Thankyou

Thankyou for reading, and I hope as many of you as possible can attend at least one of the hunts. You have to be 'in it' to win it! If you don't enter, you can't really complain if someone walks away a millionaire!

A few questions have been asked, to clarify:

No more donations will be taken after 19:15 UK time on Saturday. This will ensure both 'Hunts' are totally equal. If I am not in game, you can give gp or feathers to Dan.

The event should take around 20 mins......but that depends on how fast your digging skills are!

A list of the winners/ losers will be posted on this thread!

I also have a request:

If you are digging around like mad with other memnbers of the clan, please take a screenshot and post it on this thread!!!
