Alright, well prestige is simply a measure of how many levels you have completed in a row. At the end of a game, you get experience for the floor you just completed as well your prestige level. The higher your prestige level is the more experience you will get.
The trick to this is that if you only get bonus experience from your prestige level the first time you beat a certain floor. If you look at the floor select screen when you are forming your party and the floor you are looking at has a flag on it to show that it has been completed, then you will get no prestige experience from completing that floor, thus decreasing your overall experience.
The solution to this is to reset your prestige. So if you have completed 10 floors in a row, you can go back and complete floors 1-10 again and recieve the high prestige bonus for all of them.
The downside to resetting your prestige is that it is a measure of the number of floors you have completed in a row. If you reset your prestige after doing 10 floors, and then you unlock level 11, you will have to go back and complete all 10 floors as well as the new one in order to raise your prestige level again.
In short, resetting your prestige is a great idea if you are a very high dungeoneering level and you are required to make many different trips between levels. However, at these early stages it makes no sense for us to reset our prestige levels because we are still unlocking new floors at a relatively fast rate.
