Vote on NEW member/friend CC identifier

It's been suggested that it would be useful for KoA to identify new members/friends in the CC so that we can more easily recognize them and make them feel "at home". Hence, it's been proposed that we use the smiley face icon [ ] as a temporary rank for their first week and then convert them to regular member (corporal) or friend (recruit) CC rank at the end of the first week. Although an individual would be clearly identifiable as "new" for that first week, he/she has full clan member or friend status.

However, before implementing this change, staff would like to hear from our esteemed, fellow clan members. So, PLEASE VOTE!. Comments are welcome too.

not to make it confusing but,
wouldn't it make more sense for friends to be friend rank(aka smiley)
brand new membs to be recruits (1 stripe)
and normal membs be corporals (2 stripes)

i do like the idea tho

Voted no, but bordering on don't care.

Even for those that play quite often, with timezone differences and days people don't play RS etc.. it can be weeks before someone meets a new member. Or in my case some months lol

Really a new name should stand out anyway.

A new name is either someone new, someone changed names or you're quite new to the clan yourself and don't know the person yet. In any of those cases if you want to get to know your fellow clan members it would involve saying hi and finding out who they are.

It really doesn't make much of a difference tho, which is why I border on don't care. if new members are reporting feeling out of place or unwelcome in the cc, or unable to jump in, then sure it will serve a great purpose and I'll change to yes. Only a no vote for the sake of, if it ain't broke don't fix it, and I love simplicity. But if it is broke or a it's a stitch in time, it'll be yes.

But as far as I've seen, the koa cc is welcoming, they recognise new members and name changes, and new people are given every opportunity to jump in.

Totally agree with you there But this name changing option is confusing some people in the CC and it was felt that the members should say if that is what they would feel better with

Not everyone is as nosey or forthright (as some of us) to ask outright "...and who are you?" :lol:

The clan I help run uses a system like this, only with the Recruit rank instead of Smiley face (we use that for clan friends). It's worked brilliantly so far, as it lets everyone know that they need to get to know this person, and it help the staff in charge of the clan chat list keep track of the inactive newbies.

However good it may be, a word of warning that this may inspire new members to compete for ranks or make a big deal out of nothing. Then again, I still deal with people under 18 so this may not be so much as an issue as it has been with me.

Yes, this is most definitely not a ranking system as every member that temporarily gets a smiley will be of equal rank as our longer stated members / friends. It really is purely for identifying new people
