I just threw up a preliminary / draft version of my "Champion Iron Mining" guide here. It's quick Iron mining if you want to bank your ores.

I'm bitter that Jagex has spent $50+ million of RS subscriptions developing other games instead of improving RS. If you're reading one of my posts and I even allude to Dungeoneering as a "skill" instead of minigame, keep that in mind.

about the power mining and dropping the iron.

usually it entails only dropping 3 ores then remining them, since the max number of rocks that can be around you without moving is 3.

if you have the levels...living rock caverns on w84 is THE BEST.
lvl77 for coal
lvl80 for gold
...if not, its only lvl45 for granite (think small ones sell for about 150) but, best power mining there is

For pre ling rock caverns(I have 76 mining :/) with banking options:
I used the iron ores outside of dargesh, follow guy from lumby cellar, mine, follow back and bank in cellar, repeat. I think it's the fastest free-to-bank route for irons, but there's no 3 rock formations, but there are 2 convenient 2 rock sets. He also has the option to buy the ores, but the price is quite low.

With the Seer's headband at max, coal train is a viable option for training as well. The coal trucks with level 3 seer's headband holds 196 coals you fillerup there (I prefer no glory for saving time but few gems - up to you). My typical method for unloading involves bringing a stack of natures, and all but 6 addy ores, 2 trips to unload @ 21 addy ores first trip (21x6=126 coal used) leaving 70 coals so I bring 12 addy ores plus 2 coals on second trip. Very convenient since unloading coal to fill inventory is one left click. Coals are 50xp/rock as opposed to 35 for iron, but slower to mine and slower to recharge. Yet at 76 mining it seems coal truck xp rate is about the same as irons and is more useful for me.

Also there is a '3-spawn' iron area just south of piscatoris, so you can either run back and forth to the bank there if you have done the swan song quest; or if you have lvl57 summon you can use a Kyatt to tele there and a duel ring(or something similar) to tele to a bank, similar to training summon.

I've been debating trying out the new Penance Horn with Mining. It depends how much XP you get for one whole round so you can base it on 40 minutes of minigame and 20 minutes of mining.
