Skeletal wyverns skip/block or take on?
I had a skeletals task (of 76) recently and tried several melee based set-ups including full prayer gear with magic/melee pray; karils with melee pray; and melee gear with magic pray, but even with prayer pots, I couldn';t find a good set up to stay for more than 20 kills
I'm just after views as to whether I should block these, or if I do them, what is a good set up to use to kill 40ish in one trip?
Cheers

I tried a task once, cancelled it not long in. If I got one today I might rethink it for Wyvern bones for Herblore.

I prefer ranging them. There is (was) a safe spot that works well once they become passive.
Re: Skeletal wyverns skip/block or take on?
i have them blocked
Re: Skeletal wyverns skip/block or take on?
I like them as they give a little break from the monotony of most slayer tasks. The method I use is karils top/bottom, rest normal melee gear and pray piety (gets me ~25 kills/trip), and always results in a profit. I think I use 3 ppots, two super set sips and an inv/bob of monks for the trip (ppots may be off as I can't remember that off the top of my head). And it always seems my inv is full with wyvern bones (4kea) and other miscellaneous goodies everytime I bank so banking is needed for me. There's also a fairy ring at mudskipper point for relatively quick access.
Currently playing: Civilization V, Hearthstone, Dwarf Fortress II, Golf (IRL).

Although I'm not the OP, thanks for this.Neltak wrote:I like them as they give a little break from the monotony of most slayer tasks. As I said further up the thread, I had a not so good experience with them, but want to get me some bones for Herblore.
But aren't you supposed to use a mind shield or something? For some reason I remember a mind shiedl...

Love 'em!!
Depending on levels, a pony, enhanced Excalibur and a handful of monks is more than enough to get by for a full inventory of wyvern bones 20-25 kills. This without praying and wearing tank gear.
And never know..a visage is always a possibility!

Re: Skeletal wyverns skip/block or take on?
yes Mind shield, although DFS & elemental shields work tooPhelimReagh wrote:But aren't you supposed to use a mind shield or something? For some reason I remember a mind shiedl...
(not an Anti-dragon Shield or an Antifire Potion), otherwise it will hit in the 50s.
also, Despite the classification of Dragon, Dragon Slayer Gloves from the Fist of Guthix mini-game will have no effect on those guys.
I kill them (now that I can get more than 5 kills a trip, wasn't as easy with a lower cmb lvl)...one of the best Visage drop rates in the game
Re: Skeletal wyverns skip/block or take on?
I heard from several people they are really pain in the ass so when I got my first slay task for thoose i just banned it right away

Re: Skeletal wyverns skip/block or take on?
Hi guys, thanks for the responses, it's interesting the variety of replies here.
I think that I'll hold off unblocking them for a couple more tasks. I'll try your setup next time Neltak, and given that there is always the chance of a visage drop, it is worth taking them on I think, and worst case scenario you get an inv of wyvern bones!
Cheers guys

Yeah, forgot about that. A mind shield or Dragonfire Shield (not anti-dragon shield) is a must.PhelimReagh wrote:Although I'm not the OP, thanks for this.Neltak wrote:I like them as they give a little break from the monotony of most slayer tasks. Re: Skeletal wyverns skip/block or take on?
I tried something new: I did three tasks there so far.
In the beginning it was a real pain in the bottom but now I just take a fruitbat pouch and +-100-150 scrolls with me.
Once I'm out of food I step out the cave and collect the fruit my bat gathers till full hp & full inv.
Then I go back in... Managed to do 32 yesterday

Re: Skeletal wyverns skip/block or take on?
I empathize with your temptation to block them...I am tempted every time I get them. However, they are the best Visage droppers, and they get easier...eventually.
I personally use proselyte, pray protect from melee, and take them on hand-to-hand (well, whip to claw, actually). I bring a unicorn, and bank every load of bones...I'm cheap like that.
Honestly, though...it probably doesn't matter if you ban them or not, considering the rarity of visage drops. You are probably just as likely to kill other dragons faster and get that magic drop. Good Luck.
