I really thought it would be today. I think it was a bad idea to release that teaser on Saturday and NOT have the update associated with it withing three days.

You turn excitement into anxiety and aggravation. Just a bit of a dumb move from Jagex, which is par for the course, really.

I'm bitter that Jagex has spent $50+ million of RS subscriptions developing other games instead of improving RS. If you're reading one of my posts and I even allude to Dungeoneering as a "skill" instead of minigame, keep that in mind.

Unavoidable game engine issues?

They really need to work on their Engrish. If they were unavoidable, why plan the release for this week?

But given that there are game engine issues, that means they're going to be releasing something fairly significant, more than just a new quest. I would say there's a new minigame with a new style of play involved.

They were "recently" unavoidable, I'd imagine. I don't see why they would plan on experiencing unavoidable game engine issues if they weren't releasing hints. Stuff happens.

The word they should have used was "unexpected". Using "unavoidable" is just a PR effort to make it seem like they didn't screw up. It's an obnoxious choice of words, in my opinion.

I can respect that opinion even if I don't share it. In our shop, we use the term anavoidable in respect to show-stoppers, particularly with implimentation. Sometimes implimentation delays are unavoidable, and this seems to be the case (along with being unexpected lol).

BTW, Mod Emilee replied to my request for compatibility issue information...

My question:
"We are not updating this week due to compatibility issues with the game engine."

Oh, now you have the programmer in me interested. Can you hint at what type of compatibility issue(s)? I suspected that this might've been an implimentation issue, and if there was a last minute compatibility problem, it would seem that I was right.
Mod Emilee's reply:
"Can you hint at what type of compatibility issue(s)? I suspected that this might've been an implimentation issue, and if there was a last minute compatibility problem, it would see that I was right."

I'm sorry, but I don't know the details. I may be able to find out more tomorrow.

These tools can't get their stories straight for the life of them.

This is why I play RS with one hand, and keep searching the universe for a real MMO with the other.

Here's a follow up post to my question yesterday. It looks like it's not as serious as I feared, and we'll probably get that big release next week...
Thanks for your support. We value all our players and all of your opinions. Every release we do goes through rigorous testing and in this case, when we found the problem which was due to a single video card driver we examined all the options but there was no way to release the update without stopping HD from working for some players.
