I dont believe the hack work nor would it happen. Jagex monitors their site security and game engine security 24/7 just like other MMO's and it'd be very difficult to hack into the game. If the hacker wanna hack the players he'd done it bit by bit over a long span of time not 700k users all at once.

Jagex staff would be more aware of this and have precautions set up before a majority of us would know about it.

Well NY eve is already history.
I've done my share of small scale hacking too back in the days (trojans/sub7 + brute force hacking to retrieve interesting info, but that was before cybercriminality was a crime
Anyway, brute forcing RS is quite impossible since the page doesn't refresh anymore when you retry multiple times in a row ;)
+ trying to decode the Java script is simply impossible if you don't have the right conversion table for the encoded data.

I also read some things on forums about Java encoded games and they are too hard to even try and decypher information.
There was this guy requesting a team to hack Kings Of Chaos accounts, he was willing to pay some bucks for it but nobody found it interesting enough to even try since the money would never compensate the time for trying to retrieve info. KOC is alot less complicated than the Java Jagex uses so I just can't think any sane person would even announce he is able to enter accounts without keyloggers, trojans or scanning yer wireless internet connection for certain login info (only possible if your physically near the target & if his modem doesn't encode the data OR if you are able to crack the WEP code...)

If he was really able to enter the accounts he could just try and take them over, change everything & fool jagex by providing payment info he also retrieved from the website to make sure the accounts don't get taken away again... But someone being able to do all of this should focus on other websites (like porn sites or small online shops that are poorly secured but do have bank card databases where u can retrieve valid bank details) instead of bullying RS players

Most stuff I used to do back in the days (7-8 yrs ago) doesn't work anymore due to everyone being more conscious about protecting their pc's (with decent firewalls & antivirus) or their connections...
I did informatics at school and we had this game with 4 other classmates to pull of small stunts and then let the other classmates decide who won...
This is where I learned some nasty tricks. Anyway, the rs hacking is simply not worth the efforts. It's far too risky to try all of this, without earning cash to be worth all the trouble. In Belgium they can lock you up nowadays for cyber criminality, dunno about other countries though.
