Cross bow training

Post by 9_red_monkey » Wed Aug 13, 2008 1:32 am

I have a karils cbow, rune cbow, and bone cbow. Based on price and xp....which should I buy to train on npc's with....bolt racks, saphire bolts, or bone bolts. Or another way?

I would buy throwing knives....

But I would train on avianse and use Broad-tipped bolts.  Those are cheaper then addy and almost the same.

Avainse are good ranging xp and drop 4 noted addy bars on almost every other drop.  Bring alching runes cuase they also drop rune stuff frequently too.

Aviansies are very good  for money ( not the fastest exp though). They are located in GWD. To go there, you need some Sara, Zammy and Armadyl item on you( or you will die very quickly). The best place for  aviansies is in the Armadyl area ( after using the mith grapple).
Good luck!

Ya thats great advice, thou it is slow range xp at least your making cash at the same time.  As far as what bolts you use, I find it really depends on the monster you are killing. So for Miths I'd use Diamond tipped, for Steels, combo of diamond and emerald tips, and Irons I'd just go with Emerald tipped.   For lower monsters I would just use addy or mith with no tips.

For serious fighting thou, aka, the p2p fighting in the clan,  :)  I use the best money can buy to ensure fast kills, so I pull out all the stops and go with the hot hot hot  :x  onyx tipped rune bolt or the dragonstone tipped rune.  To be sure I am hittin as high as possible.

i'd definitly go for a rune crossbow. but it really is not necessary to use gem-tipped bolts. regular bolts are just as good.

my range is lower than yours but I have looked into it a bit and it seems the consensus iron knives and ogres or yaks for pure xp or if money is not an object, gray chins at mummies or monkeys down at ape atoll dungeon (red are better for 85 plus to be most efficient). Again, this is not based on my own personal experiences but on what I have read about training range. When I finally decide to do it, I will just range my slayer assignments.

I'd go for aviansies. With your Defence level all you need is a shield and some Bones to Peaches tabs. Get about 100 adamantite bars at first (as a drop), then smith them into bolts and voila. Free way to train Ranged. Mind you, it's recommended to stock up on ranging potions as they help a lot.

I recommend iron knives on bandits in the Bandit Camp down in the desert. Iron knives for the fast rep rate, and bandits because they auto attack and are low enough cb to not do too much damage.

Yes, steel knives work too. The reason that I said iron instead of steel is the return on your investment. Steel knives only give you an extra 1 damage max, compared to iron. Whereas the price difference from iron to steel knives exceeds that by way of comparison to the damage difference.

Damage:

Range lvl 79 -
Iron: 10
Steel: 11

Price:

Iron: 36 gp
Steel: 60 gp

Relational Percentage:
Iron: 10 damage/36 gp = 27.7%
Steel: 11 damage/60 gp = 18.3%

The return on your investment percentage is greater with Iron. :)
