Dungeoneering: Reducing Doorlag

While I think doorlag is dependent on your graphics card, here's a quick, simple way I found that greatly reduces doorlag if you have excess RAM.

Runescape Client:

1. Locate the folder where the client launches from.
Image
2. Go up one level into the "jagexlauncher" folder.
3. Open the "runescape" folder
4. In there will be "runescape.prm", open this in notepad.
5. Upon opening you will see

Code: Select all

-Djava.class.path=jagexappletviewer.jar
-Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true
-Dcom.jagex.config=http://www.runescape.com/k=3/l=$(Language:0)/jav_config.ws
-Xmx128m
jagexappletviewer
6. Edit the -Xmx128m to a larger value (not more than half your RAM). I have mine at -Xmx512m. This adjusts the RAM available to the RS client java.
7. Save the file and load the client.

Browser:
1. When Runescape starts loading, right-click the java icon on your taskbar and select "open control panel".

2. Select the Java tab and click "view..."

3. Edit the "runetime paramaters" to -Xmx512m
*note, the 512m means 512 Mb RAM, if you have less than 1GB don't use 512, use 256 instead (always half or less).

Perhaps you allocated too much to the client? Or it was just a random client crash - I got those once in a while without that changed.

I've had done this before with a browser and had no problems, switched to the client because at a basic level it has less doorlag than a browser and haven't had any problems yet.
I also know many people who do this and don't have problems...so I really don't know.

I'll keep trying it. You're right, there have been client & browser crashes recently for other reasons.

I'll have to give this a shot, is there a way to do it if you play using Swiftkit? Or does it even matter?

AFAIK Swiftkit runs like a browser, launching java outside the program (as opposed to the client having java within the program).

So I'd assume to adjust it you'd have to follow the "browser" steps. Not sure though because I don't use Swiftkit.

Also, on a side note, I've heard (from a trusted source) doorlag is worst in Swiftkit and best in the client.
