For some reason, Runescape now sees problems with paying my subscription fees via visa. I was wondering if anyone here uses PayPal to pay the game and can briefly explain what it does and how it's done.

I use paypal for a few things, pretty reliable, altho the reason we lost teamspeak last week was that although I had money on my card, something went wrong in the system, not sure who's end, I think the people I'm actually paying, so not paypals fault, but the subscription got cancelled by someone, not me, either paypal or the host, but both are saying it wasn't them :-/
that's the first time I've had an issue tho, in about 4 years or more using them.
You can either direct bank transfer or pay by card, once a month or whatever period the subscription is set up for, paypal will dip ino your bank or card and pay the bill for you.
Pretty secure as paypal are very reputable (if a bit of a rip off for sellers). I use paypal for most things online now, nearly everyone takes it, and it's much more secure than putting your card details on lots of different sites.
You only ever input card details on paypal, then use your email address (paypal account) to make payments.

But can you use PayPal without accessing your bank account? Like transferring 10$ into PayPal and keeping it there.

I mean when I pay something through PayPal, it access my bank account and transfers the money. What I want to know is whether some money can be kept on PayPal, like xbox credits for example, and be spent at will later, without needing to access my bank account again.

yes, every time i sell something, the money goes into my paypal account, and I just leave it in there. (its a pretty small amount lol) and that way when I want to pay for something, like runescape, I pay via paypal which already has the money in it. If it happens that i have a lot of sales then i transfer the money into my bank account. I like paypal alot, its an easy way to send or recieve money.

you could try a prepaid bebit card if they are avalible in your area. all it is, you have a debit card (visa,mc) and then you put money on the card at the store in which ou bought the card (not like a gift card mind you). then you have a set spending limit on a debit card that you can use for anything at all, anywhere. the great thing about these cards is you can put more money on them at a later date if you need to or you can just let it run out of money.

So I've opened an account, and it looks fairly simple. Only one problem. I, am opening a bank account later this month (been leeching on my mum's credit card so far), but PayPal insist keeping my last name intact when I try to add the card, which of course will result in a failed verification. Any suggestions?
Edit: Managed to sign up via the old method. Turns out I kept typing the card's expiration date wrongly.
